This guided tour includes the sights around the northern capital and continues along the Kok river into the heart of the Golden Triangle.

Day 1 Chiang Mai

On arrival transfer to a hotel in the city center and rest of the day at leisure. Opportunity to explore the northern capital by your own.

Day 2 Chiang Mai

Sightseeing tour in Chiang Mai including a visit to an orchid farm outside the city, as well as the famous Suthep mountain temple, which is the landmark of the city. Take a look at an old city temple and different handicraft centres like silver- and laquerware, sa-paper umbrella production etc. Todays accommodation again in the city center.

Day 3 Chiang Mai - Thaton

In the morning depart for an elephant camp north of the city. Watch the demonstration, how these giants take a bath and are educated for their job in the forests before starting for a ride on one of them, followed by a trip down river on a bamboo raft. Stop at one of the rare Palong hill tribe village and arrive at the small town of Ban Thaton in the late afternoon where you visit Wat Thaton, a temple with giant Buddha images and stunning views over the valley of the Kok River. Accommodation at a resort on the river banks.

Day 4 Thaton - Chiang Rai

After breakfast travel along rural backroads, passing various small villages. Arrive at the Shan village on the banks of the Kok River. The women of this village are famous for their weaving. Enjoy an approx. 3 hour boat ride down on the Kok river to Chiang Rai, passing scenic and remote hill tribe villages, most of them Lahu. Arrive early afternoon and relax at the nice resort in Chiang Rai. Overnight in Chiang Rai.

Day 5 Chiang Rai

Travel up to Doi Mae Salong, a village inhabited by chinese descendants. Continue through the mountain wildernes, passing various hill tribe villages, such as Lisu, Yao and Akha.  See a country side temple which is most of the time "occupied" by wild monkeys from the nearby wilderness. Arrive at the border town of Mae Sai. Opportunity to visit the Burmese border town Tachilek (optional). Travel further to the "Golden Triangle" where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos meet. Take a boat trip on the Mekong River to the Laotian island Koh Don Sao and further on to the former royal town of Chiang Saen. Return to Chiang Rai for overnight.

Day 6 Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai

In the morning short drive to Khun Gorn waterfall, which one you will reach after a walk (approx. 1 km) on a trail through nice jungle vegetation. Drive on, passing paddy fields and small villages. Visit a countryside market  and some hot springs. In the early afternoon return to Chiang Mai. Time left for more sightseeing or shopping in the northern capital. Accommodation at a hotel in the city center.

Day 7 Chiang Mai

Day at leisure until transfer to the airport..........or extend your stay.
