DAY 1 HOUAY XAI - PAK BENG
In the morning (approx. time 08.00) proceed to the Thai immigration in Chiang Khong. Then cross the Mekong River by shuttle boat to the Lao immigration. Representatives from the Luangsay cruise will be present at the Lao immi- gration for any kind of assistance (actually their office is just next door). After border formalities are done, you will be transfered to the pier. The boat leaves at 09.00. Cruise down the Mekong. Have lunch on the boat and then stop at one of the many villages of ethnic minorities. Late afternoon arrive Pak Beng and check in at the Luangsay Lodge, built in traditional Lao style of solid wood on the shores of the Mekong. Enjoy a tasty dinner and overnight at the lodge.
DAY 2 PAK BENG - LUANG PRABANG
Have breakfast on the terrace of the lodge overlooking the river. If time allows, take a walk to the local market in Pak Beng, where people from the surrounding villages trade their goods. Board the boat for the second leg of the cruise. Lunch will be served again on route. Discover another village of ethnic mino- rities. Continue and visit the Thum Ting caves at Pak Ou, that are enshrining numerous Buddha images. Another brief stop follows at a village, where you can observe traditional process to obtain local ricewine. Finally you will arrive in Luang Prabang late afternoon and transfer yourself to your chosen hotel. End of service.

REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:
Visa for Laos available at the border crossing Chiang Khong/Houay Xai against a fee of US$ 30.- (you should bring a passport photo with you).
There is also an upriver cruise from Luang Prabang to Houay Xai available. October - April every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. May - September only Wednesday and Saturday. No cruises in June.
Accommodation before/after the cruise in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Chiang Saen/Golden Triangle, Chiang Khong, but also in Luang Prabang can be bo- oked with us. As well transfers from/to all the above mentioned destinations to/ from Chiang Khong/Houay Xai border can be arranged from our part.
